Thorner Preschool
Thorner Preschool is located in Thorner village on the site of Thorner Church of England School. As we are based on a school site, we have excellent access to space, particularly outdoor space. We offer exciting, challenging, inclusive and caring preschool environment for children within this small village and beyond. We have been OFSTED registered from 1999 and currently hold an 'Good' rating in all areas.
We are a registered charity.
Children can attend Preschool from the age of 18 months and stay until they start school. We have sole use of the building during our opening hours. We have an outdoor learning area for the sole use of Preschool children.
Our objectives were to provide an outdoor learning area made from predominantly natural resources allowing children to experiment, explore and investigate the natural properties of the environment around them.
We encourage children to have a positive sense of self in our setting and hope they feel safe, secure and happy as they learn. The key person system has a vital role in our setting, and we hope we provide a friendly, supportive, non-judgemental environment for all.
We look at all the activities we provide in a reflective way and carefully observe what the child is doing or how they use our equipment resources, utilising the Characteristics of Effective Learning, feeding this into future planning and adapting our setting as necessary so that a child has the opportunity to think and create critically, play and explore and learn by doing.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and all learning is done through play both indoors and outdoors.
All activities are free choice, self-selected, child centred and child initiated with minimal intervention from staff.
We have high aspirations for every child that attends our setting.
